You say you're local and independent. What does that really mean?
Vastu is a privately held business that relies solely on its own unique name and reputation (we're not affiliated with a national corporation). We encourage people to shop locally and appreciate the efforts of the 3/50 Project for spreading the word about how local businesses support their communities - including the fact that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 returns to the community versus only $43 going to the community when you spend the same amount at a national chain.
Who owns Vastu?
Vastu is co-owned by Jason Claire and Eric Kole. Both owners take pride not only in being business owners in DC's thriving Midcity neighborhood, but also being residents.
Is the DC showroom your only location?
Yes. DC is the home of our only bricks-and-mortar location.
Do you have a printed catalog?
No we don't. In an effort to save paper and give customers access to the most up-to-date information regarding our products, we've opted to have all of our products on our website www.vastudc.com. All products, photographs, dimensions, construction details, customization options, and pricing are available online.
How is upholstered furniture priced?
We calculate the price of our upholstered pieces based on the size of the piece and the fabric chosen. Fabric is available in a number of different grades from Grade D to Grade XX. Each grade is a different price point, with grade D being the least expensive. There are a number of choices in color and texture within each grade. Whether you choose an entry grade fabric or leather, the interior quality of every piece is the same - premium-grade sustainable alder hardwood, heavy gauge steel sinuous springs, Teflon clips to eliminate squeaking, and high performance soy-based foam in a down envelope. Please contact us for a price quote based on the sofa or sectional that fits your space and lifestyle.
Why does your website have sofas priced starting at 72" long?
We wanted to give our customers a basis for comparing our various sofa styles. Each sofa may be created in any length in 6" increments starting at 48" (and as sectionals in any dimension) and in countless textiles and leathers. A 72" sofa in our least expensive textile is simply a point of reference. Please ask a Vastu designer to help you design and price the perfect sofa or sectional for your home.
How does your interior design service work?
Whether you need help selecting a chair for your living room or you'd like to re-do the interior of your entire home, we can help. You can either call ahead or walk in the showroom to schedule an appointment with someone on the team. The $100/hour fee is credited towards your first purchase if the purchase is made within 60 days. We have lots of photos of our completed interior design projects on our website www.vastudc.com. Just click on 'Portfolio'.
Why are there things on the website that aren't in the showroom?
We work with over 200 craftsmen and artisans, and our showroom is 3,500 square feet. This means that all the great home furnishings and décor elements we're able to offer can't fit in the store. We do work hard to have each major manufacturer represented on the showroom floor at any given time. So, you may be interested in a dining table that we don't have in the store, but we will have a coffee table from the same company. Additionally, all textile, wood, glass, and color samples are available to see at our showroom.
Do you have items in stock?
Our approach is to build and sell furniture that is long-lasting both from a style and quality perspective. We also build exactly what our clients need and want since so many of our lines are customizable. So larger furniture piece like sofas, chairs, dining tables, etc. are all made-to-order — meaning they are made to the customer's specifications. We tend to stock smaller items such as lamps and vases.
You say you're an art gallery. How is that?
We exhibit the works of various regional artists in our DC showroom. Every 10 — 12 weeks the exhibit changes. For details on the artists currently showing at Vastu, visit www.vastudc.com and check out the info in the "Featured Event" bar at the bottom of the page. If you're an artist and interested in showing at Vastu, please contact the Art Director at artistbrianpetro@yahoo.com.
How long does it take to get my furniture after it's ordered?
Most of our products are hand crafted specifically for you. They can be designed in the color, size, and style to fit your space. The lead time on the home furnishings we offer ranges anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks, though most items are in the 6 to 8 week range. Once you've figured out exactly what you want, be sure to ask this question to one of the Vastu staff members.
How does delivery work?
Vastu works with a white glove delivery service. Once your order is shipped to the delivery warehouse, the delivery company inspects your item(s) for damage. Following inspection, they will then contact you to set a convenient delivery time. During delivery, the service team sets up the piece(s) you have ordered and takes away all of the packaging. Delivery charges are on a per item basis. Large furniture items must go to the warehouse. Smaller items like lamps, vases, etc. can be delivered to the store for pick-up.
What is your return policy?
All Vastu orders are final as they are being made and ordered just for you. If an item is damaged, then we will replace it.
